Most assumed the Main Street mainstay would cease to exist. But Walter passed the torch to Lance McKenna, who made it his mission to breathe new life into the struggling shop. It's a bit quirkier than the average bookstore, unapologetically eclectic and downright chaotic depending on the day, but what Sound & Furry sometimes lacks in conventional order, it more than makes up for in atmosphere. There are comfortable chairs in every cozy corner and stacks of books begging to be browsed. That the building doubles as a makeshift cat haven draws attention, but the unspoken invitation to kick back and dive into a good book keeps customers coming back.
